About YouTube Analytics groups
A YouTube Analytics group is a custom collection of up to 200 channels, videos, playlists, or assets which you can put together from all your video content.
Benefits of YouTube Analytics groups
Groups allow you to view aggregate data of the items in a group which can help you analyze performance in an organized way. For example, you can create groups based on a common topic, type of video, as well as by the recency of the upload. You can see groups data for all the reports available in YouTube Analytics.
Group types
The types of groups you can create depends on your set-up: As a channel owner, you can create video groups from your claimed and uploaded video content as well as playlist groups from the playlists you created. As a Multi-Channel-Network, you can also create channel and asset groups from the channels you manage. You will see which groups are available to you in the groups editor.
Group visibility
In addition to the groups you create yourself, you can also browse the groups others who have access to your YouTube Analytics account have set up. You’ll be able to see data for all of these groups and have the ability to copy and edit others’ groups for further customization. Similarly, your groups will be visible to everyone who has access to the same YouTube or CMS account as you. Others are able to query data for your groups, but can only copy (not edit) your groups.
Setting up YouTube Analytics groups
A YouTube Analytics group is a custom collection of up to 200 channels, videos, playlists or assets which you can put together from all your video content. Visit this article to learn more about groups and read below to learn about setting up groups.
Finding existing groups
Select Browse all groups from the Groups drop-down menu in the top right. When logged in as a channel, groups that you have created yourself are displayed as My Groups; when logged in as content owner you can toggle between My Groups and All Groups to see all available groups. You can sort them by name, group size and creation date as well as search for them by name. Alternatively, search for a group name in the content chooser directly.
Creating a group
Select the type of group you’d like to create from the Groups drop-down menu in the top right. Enter a name for the new group and – depending on the group type – select channels, videos, playlists or assets. You can search for content to add to a group by name and for videos, playlists and assets also by video ID.
Selecting content for groups
You can choose from the videos you have uploaded or claimed, the playlists you’ve created with your and other channel’s videos, the channels you own and see data for in YouTube Analytics as well as your assets if you’re using Content ID. You can add up to 200 items to one group.
There are two options to find the content you’d like to add to a group:
- Search for content by name and for videos, playlists and assets also by ID in the search bar.
- Click “Add videos by ID” (or the corresponding btn for channels, playlists, or assets) at the bottom of the dialogue. This allows you to enter up to 200 IDs on different lines or separated by commas or spaces. If you’re editing an existing group, you are able to add the remaining number of items until reaching the limit of 200 items.
Editing or deleting groups
You have two options:
- When already looking at a group, you’ll see a drop-down menu next to the group name displayed in YouTube Analytics. There you can select to either edit or delete the group. The edit option will bring you to the groups editor and the delete option will bring you to a pop-up dialogue to confirm you’d like to delete the selected group.
- Select Browse all groups from the Groups drop-down menu, navigate to the group in question and edit or delete it.
You only have the option to edit or delete groups you’ve created yourself.
Copying groups
When looking at an existing group, the drop-down menu next to the group name shows you the option to make a copy of the group. You can then customize it further in the groups editor.
Groups FAQs:
As channel owner you have the option to create groups from all the videos associated with your channel which you uploaded yourself or claimed as well as the playlists you created. In order to create channel groups, you have to have several channels rolled up under your content owner/CMS account. To create asset groups, you also need to have access to Content ID.
If you manage several channels and don’t see the option to create a channel group, it’s likely you’re only looking at the channel level. In this case you can toggle the top-right dropdown to select the correct content owner. The same applies if you cannot see the option to create an asset group. Make sure you’re logged in as the correct content owner who administers assets.
At the moment you can only manually specify the videos or channels for a group.
At the moment this functionality is not available. By default you’ll see all your groups in the “My Groups” view, which makes it easier to find the groups you’re looking for.
