Connected to wrong Google+ profile or page
If your YouTube channel is connected to the wrong Google+ page or profile, don’t worry. Here’s how to move your channel to a different page or profile:
- Sign in to the channel on YouTube. (If the channel is connected to a page, sign in to the page owner account).
- Go to advanced account settings.
- Click Move channel to different Google+ profile or page and re-enter your password.
- You’ll see some information about your channel and the currently connected Google+ profile or page.
- Click Select desired page or profile to see the list of available options for your account. Note that you can only move your channel to a page or profile owned by the same Google Account (see below).
- Choose an option and check how your channel will appear after moving.
- When you’re ready, confirm and move your channel.
What to do if the desired profile or page isn’t listed in “Available profiles / pages”
Since a Google+ profile or page can only be connected to one YouTube channel (and vice versa), you can’t move your channel to a profile or page that already has a channel. If you choose a profile or page that already has a channel, you will see the option to delete that channel to free up the profile or page.
If the Google+ page you want to move your channel to is owned by a different Google Account, you can transfer ownership of that page to your Google Account. Once your Google Account owns the page, you’ll be able to choose that page when moving your channel.
Alternatively, if your channel is currently connected to a page, you can transfer ownership of your page to the other Google Account, and then sign in to that account to move your channel.
Change your channel name or icon
Note that changing your name or icon is currently not possible in the YouTube mobile apps or mobile site, but can be done on a computer:
If your channel is connected to Google+, you can change the channel name:
- Sign in to your channel on YouTube.
- Open the Guide and click My Channel.
- Point your cursor at your channel name and click the pencil icon > Channel settings.
- Under Account Information, click Change next to your channel name.
- Sign in to your channel on YouTube.
- Open the Guide and click My Channel.
- Point your cursor at your channel icon and click the pencil icon .
Google+ deletion or suspension
Once you link a YouTube channel with a Google+ profile or page, your YouTube channel is tied to the data of that particular profile or page. This means that deleting a Google+ profile or page will have a direct impact on any YouTube channel connected to it.
- Your channel will be disabled.
- Your comments and messages will be permanently deleted.
- The following will be made private:
- Your channel name
- Your videos
- Your playlists
- Your subscribers
You can re-enable your channel. Your channel and subscribers will be restored, and you’ll then have the option to make your videos and playlists viewable in the Video Manager. Note that subscribers may take up to a couple of days to restore.
-
You can’t delete a Google+ page that’s connected to a channel. You first have to delete the channel.
If your Google+ profile is suspended, you also won’t be able to create new YouTube channels on your Google Account until you address the suspension on Google+.
Limitations of channels connected to a Google+ page
Your may have noticed some issues with your channel after connecting to Google+, including:
- Some third-party devices, apps, or tools may not work with your channel.
- Paid features, like rentals, don’t work.
- Links to other Google services switch to using your name.
- Your channel’s website association in Search Console stops working.
Why does my account have these limitations?
You’ve connected your YouTube channel to a Google+ page. Channels connected to a Google+ page operate similarly to other channels, but currently have the above limitations. We’re working to fix these over time.
How to get around these limitations for now
- (Advanced) Sign in directly to the Google+ page connected to your channel. You’ll need to add new sign-in details for the Google+ page: Set up a username and password for your Google+ page.
- Disconnect your channel from Google+. This option is available within 14 days after connecting to Google+.
- For Webmaster Tools, you can add a new associate with the Google+ page email address found in your advanced account settings.
We know these options might not work for everyone, so we’re working hard to fix the limitations. Stay tuned for improvements in the near future.
