YouTube on Playstation 3
You can now watch YouTube videos on the Playstation 3. In the YouTube app you’ll be able to view your subscribed channels, search for content, and use your mobile device as a remote.
- Navigate to SIGN IN & SETTINGS.
- Select SIGN IN using the X btn. You should now see an activation code displayed.
On your desktop:
- Go to www.youtube.com/activate and enter in the activation code shown on the PlayStation 3.
- Click Allow Access, which completes the sign in process.
- Home – Return to the home screen.
- Search – Find a new video to watch.
- Pause/resume – Pause or resume the video.
- Fast forward – Select this to fast forward by 10 seconds.
- Rewind – Select this to rewind by 10 seconds.
- Closed Captioning – If the video has captions, select this to view the video’s closed captions.
- Flag – Flag the video for inappropriate content.
YouTube on Wii
You can now watch YouTube videos on the Wii. In the YouTube app you’ll be able to view your subscribed channels and search for content.
Signing in
You can discover and watch YouTube videos without a YouTube account, but to view your playlists, favorites, and uploaded videos, you must sign into your YouTube account. To sign in with your YouTube account, follow these steps:
Part 1: On your Wii:
- Open the YouTube for Wii app.
- Select Sign In & Settings.
- Select Sign In.
Part 2: On your desktop computer:
- In your browser, navigate to www.youtube.com/activate.
- Sign in with your YouTube account.
- Enter the code listed on your Wii.
- Click the Allow access btn.
Playing and discovering videos
Playing videos
Once you select a video to play, a player controls bar will appear allowing you to perform the following actions:
- Pause/resume the video (On your Wii Remote, you can also press the A btn to pause/resume the video.)
- Fast forward
- Rewind
To exit the video, select the Back Arrow icon or press the B btn on your Wii Remote.
Searching for videos
Select the Search icon to search for your favorite YouTube videos. As you enter in your search terms, the search results will autocomplete. To scroll through the results, press the Plus and Minus icons.
My YouTube
You can personalize your YouTube experience by selecting My YouTube. You’ll be able to view your playlists, select Safety Mode defaults, and more.
- Sign out – Select this to sign out of your account.
- Safety Mode – Enable Safety Mode to avoid videos that may contain inappropriate content. This feature uses community flagging and other signals to block objectionable content. Please note that Safety Mode does not guarantee the blocking of all inappropriate videos. The option to turn on Safety Mode for every user that signs into your Wii is also available.
- Favorites – View the videos in your Favorites playlist.
- My Playlists – View your current playlists.
- Uploads – View videos you have uploaded.
- Help & Terms – Links to YouTube’s Terms of Service and additional support information can be found here.
YouTube on Xbox 360
With the YouTube app on Xbox 360, you can view your subscriptions, easily find your favorite YouTube videos, and use your phone to queue up videos to watch.
When the YouTube app first launches, you’ll need to sign in with your Xbox Live Account. Press A to sign in. Once you’ve signed in to your Xbox Live account, you can sign in to the YouTube app. Here’s how:
On your Xbox 360:
- Open the YouTube app.
- Open the Guide on the left and select Sign In.
On a computer, tablet, or phone:
- Visit www.youtube.com/activate.
- If prompted, select which account you’d like to sign in to.
- Enter the activation code that’s displayed on the Xbox 360 and click Continue.
- Select Accept on the next screen.
If after following the steps above you think you’re signed in to the wrong account, you should:
- On your Xbox 360, open the Guide on the left and scroll to the bottom for Settings.
- Select Sign Out then click OK.
- In your computer, tablet, or phone, sign out of YouTube and sign back in with the desired account.
- Repeat the youtube.com/activate process.
Search for videos
- Search suggestions: As you type in your query, you’ll see search suggestions below the search box. From the keyboard, you can press up on the D-pad or left stick until the desired query is highlighted. Then, press A to search for that query.
- Browse videos: As you search, relevant videos will appear at the bottom of the screen. Press left or right on the D-pad or left stick to browse the video results.
- Modify your search: To modify your search terms, press up on the D-pad/left stick to return back to the search box.
Video controls
- Home: Return to the home screen.
- Skip backward: Skip back to the previous video in the playlist.
- Rewind: Move back 10 seconds.
- Pause / Play: Pause the video or resume playback.
- Fast forward: Move ahead 10 seconds.
- Skip forward: Skip to the next video in the playlist.
- Closed Captions: If the video has closed captions enabled, press A to enable this feature. If the CC icon is grayed out, closed captions are not available.
- More actions: Additional features can be accessed by selecting More actions:
- Subscribe to the channel
- Like / Dislike the video
- Flag the video as inappropriate
- Search

Signing in

Upload a video on Xbox One
You can upload videos to YouTube directly from your Xbox One. Here’s how:
- Sign in to the YouTube app
- Navigate to Uploads and select the Upload tile. If you don’t see the Upload tile, you may need to change the “Share on social networks” setting to Allowed on your Xbox account.
- You’ll now see the videos you’ve recorded on your Xbox One. Choose the video you’d like to upload.
- Enter a title, choose the privacy setting for your video, and make sure that you’re uploading to the correct channel. If you don’t see the correct channel, sign out of the YouTube app and sign in with the desired channel.
- Select Upload and your video will begin uploading. Make sure to stay on the upload screen until your video is fully uploaded as minimizing or leaving the app may cause the upload to fail.
It may take a few minutes for your video to be displayed in your Uploads row. Once your video is displayed, you can edit the title and privacy settings. You can also delete the video from YouTube. Note: This will not delete your video from your Xbox One device.
YouTube on Playstation 4
The YouTube app is now available on PlayStation 4.
Sign in
- Navigate to Sign in.
- Sign in with your Google account when prompted. If you have multiple Google accounts, be sure to select the account you use with YouTube.
- After signing in, you may be presented with a list of Google identities associated with your account. Be sure to choose the account that is linked to your YouTube channel. If you select a Google+ page that doesn’t have a YouTube channel, you won’t be able to sign in.
To sign out, visit PS4 Settings > Link with Other Services > YouTube and then select Sign Out.
Playing videos
Once you select a video to play, a player control bar will appear allowing you to perform the following actions:
- Go home returns you to the home screen.
- Play will play or resume your video.
- Forward will advance the video by 10 seconds.
- Rewind will rewind the video by 10 seconds.
- Captions will show the video’s closed captions, if available.
When playing a video, you can find additional options by selecting More Actions. There you’ll find the options to:
- Subscribe to the channel
- Rate the video
- Flag the video for violating community guidelines
Pairing a second device to the Playstation 4
You can use your phone, tablet, or computer as a remote control. Learn how to pair to your Playstation 4 through youtube.com, the YouTube for Android app, or the YouTube for iOS app.
Upload a video on PS4
You can upload gameplay videos directly to YouTube using the Share btn on your PlayStation 4. Here’s how:
- Press the Share btn on your PS4 controller and select Upload Video Clip.
- Select the clip you’d like to upload and choose YouTube.
- Trim the start or end point, add a title, description, and tags.
- Confirm the privacy settings and that you’re uploading to the correct channel.
- Select Share.
Your clip will now begin uploading. You can track the progress of your uploads by visiting your PS4 Notifications page.
Control YouTube on TV with your phone, tablet, or computer
Connect over Wi-Fi
If you’re using a supported TV or game console, your phone, tablet, or computer will connect to your TV automatically when both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. Touch or click the icon to select the display on which your video will play.
Manual pairing
If you’re unable to connect over Wi-Fi, you can manually pair your TV with your second device.
Step 1: Find the pairing code
- Launch YouTube on your TV or game console.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Scroll to the Pair device screen.
Step 2: Enter the pairing code
- Launch the YouTube Android app.
- Go to Settings.
- Select Connected TVs then select Add a TV.
- Enter the pairing code shown on your TV or game console.
Touch or click the icon to select the display on which your video will play.
Remove or edit a connected TV
Remove or edit a Connected TV by returning to the pairing screen on your mobile device or computer.
- On your computer, go to youtube.com and click Settings > Connected TVs to remove or edit a TV.
- On iOS, touch Settings > Connected TVs and touch Connected TVs again to remove or edit a TV.
- On Android, touch Menu > Settings > Connected TVs > Edit TVs to remove or edit a TV.
- On the mobile site, touch Settings > Connect to TV > My TVs to remove or edit a TV.
To remove all paired devices from your connected TV, go to Settings > Delete > OK.
Send to TV
After connecting your phone, tablet, or computer to your YouTube TV or game console app, click or touch the icon to select the display on which your video will play. Use the video controls on your paired device to play, pause, stop or seek within the video.

Add videos to TV queue
While a video is playing on your TV or game console, you can add additional videos the the TV queue without interrupting playback.
- On iOS, touch a video and select +TV Queue.
- On Android, touch a video and select +TV Queue.
- On the mobile site, touch +Add to TV Queue.
- On youtube.com, select a video and then click +TV Queue
View your TV queue
- On iOS, maximize the video player and touch TV queue.
- On Android, maximize the video player and touch TV queue.
- On the mobile site, the TV queue will appear in the guide.
- On youtube.com, the TV queue will appear on the right side of your screen while casting.
Remove videos TV queue
- On iOS, open the TV queue and touch Remove from TV Queue.
- On Android, open the TV queue and touch Remove from TV Queue.
- On the mobile site, touch TV queue in the guide. Touch X in the video’s thumbnail.
- On youtube.com, hover over the video in the TV queue and click the X in the upper right. To clear your entire TV queue, click and then select Remove all.

YouTube app & YouTube.com
Chromecast requires YouTube app version 4.5.17 or higher on Android or version 1.4 or higher on iOS. To update to the latest version, please visit Google Play or the Apple App Store.
To cast from www.youtube.com, you must have the cast extension installed on your Chrome Browser.
Watching your favorite YouTube videos on your TV has never been easier. To cast from YouTube to your TV:
- Find a video you want to watch and press the the Cast btn. On the YouTube app, the Cast btn will be in the top right-hand corner. From youtube.com on your laptop, it is in the bottom right of the player.
- Select your Chromecast from the dropdown menu and wait for your video to start playing on your TV.
Note: The Cast btn in the youtube.com player on your laptop functions differently than the Google Cast extension on your Chrome Browser. See Google Cast-enabled vs. Casting a Tab to learn more.You may continue to use your phone or tablet to perform other tasks while your video is playing. To play, pause, or navigate with the scrollbar, use your device as you normally would to control playback. If you want to ‘cast’ the video back to your phone and tablet, simply press the ‘Cast’ btn once more, and select your phone or tablet from the list of available devices.
Playing multiple videos back-to-back
While watching a video, you can add more videos to your TV queue by selecting Add to TV queue on your mobile device or desktop. To see your TV queue, click YouTube logo which functions as a back btn until you see TV queue. Any device that is connected to your Wi-Fi network can cast videos and add to the TV queue. - Some videos may not play using Chromecast. Live content and videos not approved for mobile playback will not work with Chromecast.
- Because YouTube uses adaptive bitrate streaming, videos may appear lower quality at first, then will switch to the highest possible quality after a few seconds. If the video does not buffer at playback speed, the video will be downgraded to a lower quality setting, allowing for smoother playback.
- Casting from YouTube is supported from the YouTube app, YouTube.com, and most embedded YouTube videos.

Music videos with the Ad-free badge will play ad-free in the YouTube app on the following game consoles:
- Xbox 360
- Xbox One
- Wii U
- Playstation 3
Background and offline playback, however, are only available on the Android and iOS mobile apps.
Please ensure that you have the latest version of the YouTube app installed on your device, and that you’re signed in with the account you used to subscribe.
Sign into youtube.com on your TV’s Internet browser or on your computer if you’d like to cancel your subscription.
Movies and TV shows purchased on YouTube are available for viewing on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Wii U.
To watch a movie or show that you’ve purchased, sign into the YouTube app and navigate to your purchases.
Paid channels purchased on YouTube are available for viewing on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Wii U.
You can watch videos from any paid channels that you’ve subscribed to by signing into the YouTube app and navigating to your subscriptions.
Sign into youtube.com on your TV’s internet browser or on your computer for other actions, such as purchasing and subscribing to a paid channel or canceling an existing subscription payment.
The Xbox One, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Wii U all support viewing live events on YouTube.
Make sure you have the latest version of the YouTube app installed on your game console. To view your live events, sign into the YouTube app on your game console, navigate to your purchases and select the event you wish to watch.
