I can’t delete a comment
If you keep getting an error message that a comment can’t be deleted, it may be because the comment was already deleted in our system. The comment may still appear because you’re viewing a “cached,” or old, version of the page. We’re aware of this issue and are working on a fix.
Keep in mind that you’re only able to delete your own comments on a photo or comments on your own photo. You can’t delete another person’s comments on a photo that isn’t yours. Learn more about deleting comments.
Comments are cut off or aren’t showing the full text (Apple iOS)
We’re aware of an issue where comments on photos in Activity aren’t showing the full text. Instead, the text is cut off and replaced with blank space. This happens on older phones like the iPhone 3G and older generations of the iPod Touch.
This is an issue with iOS 4.0 and can be fixed by updating to iOS 5.0 or later. If it’s not possible to update your iOS, we hope to have this bug fixed in a future update.
Emoji aren’t appearing
Android
We don’t show emoji for people using Android, and we hide comments that are made up only of emoji.
Apple iOS
Emoji should appear in comments if you’re using iOS 4.2 or above. If you’re using an earlier version of iOS, please update iOS on your phone if possible.
Keep in mind that Instagram doesn’t offer emoji. You can download emoji apps from the App Store that allow for a special keyboard to be installed on your phone. Here’s a free emoji app you can install for iOS.
I get an error when trying to add a comment
If you’re getting an error when posting a comment, you may be using an outdated version of Instagram. Try updating your app to the latest version.
If your Instagram app is up to date, your comment may be failing for a different reason:
-
You can only include up to 5 @ mentions in a single comment
-
You can only include up to 30 #hashtags on a single photo
-
You can’t post multiple, duplicate comments (including emoji)
We have these guidelines in place to help reduce spam on Instagram.
When you post a comment that fits any of the three reasons above, you’ll receive a pop-up warning prompting you to learn more about commenting or delete your comment. We’re also filtering certain words and phrases. We hope to encourage genuine interactions between people on Instagram.
