Find your video in search results
It can take a few days for uploaded videos to be reflected in YouTube search results, especially if you recently changed or removed your video.
If it’s been a few days and you still can’t find your video in search results, here are some troubleshooting tips to try on your computer:
- Use search filters to refine your search.
- Improve your video tags to help your video surface in searches.
- Check your Video Manager to see if any of your videos have errors.
View or delete videos from your watch history
YouTube watch history makes it easy to find videos you recently watched and improves your video recommendations.
View or delete watch history (signed in)
Changes you make to your account’s watch history will appear on all devices you sign in to with this account.
Access your watch history by touching the Guide > History.
- Remove a video: Touch the menu icon next to the video details and choose Remove from Watch History.
- Clear all watch history: Touch Menu > Clear History to clear your entire watch history.
Access your watch history by touching the Guide > History.
- Remove a video: Touch the menu icon next to the video details and choose Remove from Watch History.
- Clear all watch history: Touch the trash icon to clear your entire watch history.
Access your watch history by touching Guide > History.
- Remove a video: Touch the menu icon next to the video detail and choose Remove from Watch History.
- To clear your entire watch history, use the Android or iOS YouTube apps, or visit YouTube on a computer.
- Remove a video: Click the delete icon to the right of the video details to remove a video from your watch history.
- Click Clear all watch history to delete your entire history.
- Click Pause watch history to pause your history. While your watch history is paused, videos you watch will not show up in your watch history.
Access your watch history by clicking on History in the Guide. Follow the steps below to manage your watch history from your TV, game console, or media streaming box:
- Navigate to Settings in the Guide.
- Select Clear watch history.
Delete watch history (signed out)
Even when you’re not signed in, YouTube improves your recommendations based on the videos you watch on that device. You can’t view the signed-out watch history, but you can clear the history from your device:
- Go to Menu > Settings > Privacy.
- Choose Clear watch history.
- Open the Guide.
- Touch the gear icon to enter Settings.
- Under Privacy, choose Clear watch history.
- Go to History at the bottom of any YouTube page.
- Click Clear all watch history.
- Navigate to Settings in the Guide.
- Select Clear watch history.
View or delete search history
If you’re trying to find a particular video you looked for, search history may help. Your YouTube search history lets you see what you previously searched for on YouTube.
See the steps below for instructions on how to clear previous searches. Any searches made when you’re signed in on your device may also appear in your YouTube search history when you’re signed in to the same account on your computer.
Sign out to clear previous YouTube searches on your device from showing in the Search box. If you’re already signed out, you can clear your search history with the following steps:
- Open the Guide.
- Touch the gear icon to enter Settings.
- Under Privacy, choose Clear search history.
When signed in, access your search history by touching Guide > History > Search History.
- Touch Clear all to delete your entire search history.
- Touch Pause to pause your search history. While your search history is paused, search queries you enter will not be saved in your search history.
- Remove a search by touching the menu icon next to the search and then selecting Remove from Search History.
- Remove a search: Click the menu icon to the right of the search query and choose Remove from Search History.
- Click Clear all search history to delete your entire search history.
- Click Pause search history to pause your search history. While your search history is paused, search queries you enter will not be saved in your search history.
Search for videos with captions
Videos with captions available will have a “CC” icon underneath the video summary in search results. If you’d like search results to only show videos with captions available, enable this search filter:
- Enter your keywords in the YouTube search bar
- Click the Filters btn
- Click CC (closed caption)
Type with a virtual keyboard
How to search in other languages using an onscreen keyboard
If you use a language that requires special characters (e.g. Arabic, Greek, Thai), enter more precise search terms in YouTube by using the virtual keyboard.
Click the keyboard icon in the YouTube search bar to display the keyboard. Move it around by clicking it and dragging it.To use the keyboard, just click the keyboard with your mouse, or type the corresponding key on your physical keyboard (not all physical keyboards are compatible).
To display more characters, try clicking Alt+Ctrl and the Up arrow key on the keyboard.
Advanced search (Filters)
When you search for videos and other content on YouTube, you can refine your search by using filters.
After typing your search query in the search box at the top of any YouTube page, click the Filters drop-down menu below the search box.
You can filter by the type of content (e.g. video, playlist, or movie). For example, if one cute cat video isn’t enough, you can find an entire playlist of cute cat videos by clicking Playlist under “Result Type” in the Filters drop-down menu.
