Comment on videos

Comments give you an easy way to engage with other people on YouTube. You can view and contribute to the conversation in the comments section of videos and on the Discussion tab of channels (if the channel owner has enabled the Discussion tab).

View comments

Comments you care about show first. You’ll see comments at the top of the list from people in your Google+ Circles, from creators, and from popular personalities. Comments with many likes and replies will rank highly as well.

Sort comments. You can choose to see the most recent comments instead. Replies are threaded so you can easily follow conversations.

Comments from more places. Google+ posts that link to videos or channels will also appear as comments on YouTube, marked “via Google+”.

Comment moderation. You can report any comment for spam or abuse. If you’re a creator, you can also use comment moderation tools for comments on your videos or your channels.

Mention people. You can mention people in your comments to invite them to join the discussion.

Share your comment in more places. You can also share your comment as a post on Google+. If you do this, only the people you choose will be able to see the comment on Google+. It will also be visible to them on places such as the Google+ profile or page connected to your channel. Comment Moderation

Other YouTube users can post comments on your videos and your channel (if the Discussion tab is enabled for your channel). Since it’s your content, you have some tools to moderate the discussion.

Take action on comments. Click the arrow in the upper right of a comment on your channel or video to see your options.

  • Remove – Takes down the comment from YouTube. If the comment has any replies, they will also be removed. Note that if the comment was also shared on Google+, it will still be live there.
  • Report spam or abuse -Allows you to report comments that you believe are spam or abusive to the YouTube team.
  • Hide from channel – Blocks the user from posting comments on videos and your channel. You can remove the user from the hidden users list later in your community settings.

Hold comments for approval. You can require approval for all new comments before they’re posted to your video or channel:

  • Video comments – Find the video in the Video Manager, click Edit under the video, and click Advanced Settings. Then, under “Allow comments”, select Approved. You can also choose the default moderation settings for new videos in yourcommunity settings.
  • Channel comments – You can turn this on for your channel in your Channel Navigation settings.

When someone comments, you’ll get a notification as well as a blue banner on the channel or video letting you know there are comments to approve. You can then review the comments to approve, delete, or flag them for abuse or spam.

Spam filtering. If someone leaves a comment that looks like spam, a blue banner on the channel or video will let you know. You can then review these comments to either delete them or approve them if they’re not actually spam.

There are additional tools available to help you proactively moderate comments in your community settings .

FAQ

How much of my voluntary payment goes to the creator?

The vast majority of your voluntary payment goes to the creator. YouTube takes a small fee to cover the cost of processing the transaction. That fee varies by country:

Country Approximate fee per Transaction
Australia AUD $0.23 + 5%
France, Spain EUR €0.15 + 5%
Japan JPY ¥22 + 5%
Mexico MXN $2.70 + 5%
United Kingdom GBP £0.12 + 5%
United States USD $0.21 + 5%

For example, if you made a $10 Fan Funding voluntary payment in the US, YouTube’s fee would be $0.71, and the creator would receive $9.29:

Fan Funding Payment amount (USD) Less Fee (USD) Amount that goes to the creator (USD)
$10 = $0.21 + (5% x $10) = $0.71 $9.29
Which countries are supported?

  • Australia

$0.45 USD - $4.00 USD

Note: The accepted formula that Auxiliary Mode Inc. uses to calculate the CPM range is $0.45 USD - $25.00 USD.

The range fluctuates this much because many factors come into play when calculating a CPM. Quality of traffic, source country, niche type of video, price of specific ads, adblock, the actual click rate, watch time and etc.

Cost per thousand (CPM) is a marketing term used to denote the price of 1,000 advertisement impressions on one webpage. If a website publisher charges $2.00CPM, that means an advertiser must pay $2.00 for every 1,000 impressions of its ad. The "M" in CPM represents the Roman numeral for 1,000.
