Organizing YouTube Assets with Labels

Create and Manage Asset Labels

These features are only available to partners using YouTube Studio Content Manager.

Asset labels help you organize your assets into custom categories, making it easier to:

  • Find specific assets quickly
  • Update multiple assets at once
  • Build campaigns using grouped assets
  • Analyze performance across labeled content

Note: You can apply up to 30 labels per asset and have a maximum of 25,000 labels per Content Manager.

View Asset Labels

To see your existing labels and the assets assigned to them:

  1. Sign in to Studio Content Manager
  2. Go to Asset Labels in the left menu
  3. Select a label to view all associated assets

You can also view related claimed videos or campaigns linked to a label.

Export Asset Label Data

To download a CSV file containing label information:

  1. Open Studio Content Manager
  2. Select Asset Labels
  3. Check the labels you want to export (or select all)
  4. Click Export CSV
  5. Wait for the file to process
  6. Click Download when ready

Create and Apply New Labels

To create a new label and apply it to assets:

  1. Go to Studio Content Manager → Assets
  2. Select the assets you want to label
  3. Click Update Asset Labels
  4. Enter a new label name
  • If it doesn’t exist, it will be created automatically
  1. Select the label and click Add

Label rules:

  • Spaces are allowed
  • No special characters such as < > , : & % |

Apply Existing Labels

You can apply labels from either the Asset Labels page or Assets page.

From Asset Labels Page

  1. Go to Asset Labels
  2. Select a label
  3. Click Add Assets
  4. Choose assets and confirm

From Assets Page

  1. Go to Assets
  2. Select assets
  3. Click Update Asset Labels
  4. Choose existing labels and apply

Rename Asset Labels

  1. Open Asset Labels
  2. Select a label
  3. Go to Metadata
  4. Enter a new name
  5. Click Save

Best Practices for Asset Labels

To keep labels effective and organized:

  • Use clear, meaningful names (e.g., Interview, Recital, Clip1)
  • Assign multiple labels per asset for flexibility
  • Avoid using labels as unique IDs (use Custom IDs instead)
  • Reuse labels across future content when possible
  • Regularly remove unused labels to stay within limits

Delete or Remove Asset Labels

Remove Labels from Assets

You can remove labels from either:

Asset Labels page

  • Select label → choose assets → click Remove from Label

Assets page

  • Select assets → click Update Asset Labels → remove selected labels

You can also use bulk CSV updates to remove labels efficiently.

Delete Asset Labels Entirely

Delete a Single Label

  1. Go to Asset Labels
  2. Open a label
  3. Click Delete Asset Label

Bulk Delete Labels

  1. Select multiple labels
  2. Click Delete

Important: Deleting a label will also deactivate any campaigns linked to it.
