Create and delete playlists

A playlist is a collection of videos that you or another user has created. Find a group of videos that you like? Maybe a few of your favorite songs, or highlights from your local sports team? Need to organize the content that you’ve created to share with your audience? Put the videos in a playlist so you can watch them together, whenever you want.

Create playlists of your uploads

Organize your videos into playlists to feature on your channel homepage, share with your audience, or promote to potential new subscribers.

Android

Navigate to Uploads in the Guide and select the video you’d like to add to a playlist. Touch the video while it’s playing and then touch the  Add to icon.

  • To create a new playlist, touch New playlist… Enter in the title of the playlist then touch OK.
  • To add to an existing playlist, select the playlist from the menu.
iOS
  1. Touch My Channel in the Guide.
  2. Touch the Videos tab.
  3. Find a video you’d like to add to a playlist.
  4. Touch the video while it’s playing and then touch the Add to playlist  Add to icon.
  5. Touch Add to Playlist…
  • To create a new playlist, select Create New Playlist… Enter in the title of the playlist and select its privacy setting.
  • To add to an existing playlist, select the playlist from the menu then touch Select.
Mobile site
  1. Touch My Channel in the Guide.
  2. Touch the Videos tab.
  3. Find a video you’d like to add to a playlist.
  4. Touch the Add to playlist  Add to icon.
  • To create a new playlist, select Create a new playlist. Enter in the title of the playlist then touch Save.
  • To add to an existing playlist, select the playlist from the menu.
Computer

From your computer, use Video Manager to add individual videos to a playlist or add many videos at once.

  1. Navigate to Video Manager within the Creator Studio.
  2. Select the video or videos that you’d like to add to a playlist.
  3. Click Add to and select the playlist.

Build playlists of videos you like

You can create playlists of videos uploaded by others so you can save all of your favorites in one place.

Android

Find a video you’d like to add to a playlist. Touch the video while it’s playing and then touch the  Add to icon.

  • To create a new playlist, touch New playlist… Enter in the title of the playlist then touch OK.
  • To add to an existing playlist, select the playlist from the menu.
iOS
  1. Find a video you’d like to add to a playlist.
  2. Touch the video while it’s playing and then touch the Add to playlist  Add to icon.
  3. Touch Add to Playlist…

Find a video you’d like to add to a playlist. Touch the  Add to icon.

  • To create a new playlist, select Create a new playlist. Enter in the title of the playlist then touch Save.
  • To add to an existing playlist, select the playlist from the menu.
Computer
  1. Click the Add to icon underneath a video.
  2. Select an existing playlist or create a new playlist.
  3. You’ll see confirmation that this video was added to your playlist.

Access your playlists

You can find your playlists from your Guide. To access the Guide on a computer, visit the homepage or click the Guide icon on the left side of any video page. To find the Guide on mobile and tablet, touch the Guide icon at the top left when not watching a video.

Delete a playlist

You can always delete a playlist that you have created.

Android
  1. Open a playlist from the Guide.
  2. Touch the menu icon.
  3. Touch Delete playlist.
iOS
  1. Touch My Channel in the Guide.
  2. Touch the Playlists tab.
  3. Touch the Menu menu icon next to the playlist.
  4. Touch Delete playlist.

Computer
  1. Select a playlist from the Guide.
  2. Click Playlist settings.
  3. Click Delete Playlist.
To remove a saved playlist from your guide, simply visit the playlist landing page and click the Saved btn to remove the playlist from the Guide.

Share playlists

If you’re on your mobile device or at your computer, you can share your own playlists or ones created by other YouTubers. When you share a playlist, a link is created that you can give to somebody else. You can share it on social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.

Remember that if your playlist includes any private videos, you’ll need to invite your friends or family to view the videos first.

Android
On the playlist screen in the YouTube for Android app, touch the share icon to share the playlist via email, SMS, or other social networks you have installed on your device.
iOS
On the playlist screen in the YouTube for iOS app, touch the Share share icon to share the playlist via email, SMS, or other social networks you have installed on your device.
Mobile site
Only videos can be shared on YouTube’s mobile site. Additional features for playlists for m.youtube.com will be coming soon.
Computer

To share a playlist, click the Share btn on the Playlist page. From here you can share the video across social networks, embed the video, or email the video.

You can also share a playlist while watching it. Click the share icon under the video. From here you can share the video across social networks, embed the video, or email the video. You also have the option to share the playlist from the current video you’re watching or from the start of the playlist.

If videos aren’t appearing in an embedded playlist, some of the videos in the playlist may have had their embed option disabled by the uploader. Private videos will also not play in the playlist unless they’ve been shared with you by the uploader. For best results, you may want to ensure that the content you’ve included in your playlist contains only public videos that have the embed option enabled.

Add and remove videos from the Watch Later playlist

By adding videos to your Watch Later playlist, you can easily access them whenever you want, whether you want to watch them again, or for the first time! To access this playlist, click or touch Watch Later in the Guide.

Android
  • To add a video to the Watch Later playlist while watching a video on the YouTube for Android app, touch the  Add to icon. Touch Watch later.
  • To add a video while browsing your feeds, touch the  menu icon next to a video. Touch Watch Later.
  • To remove a video from this playlist, open Watch Later in the Guide. Touch the  menu icon next to a video. Touch Remove.
iOS
  • To add a video to the Watch Later playlist while watching a video on the YouTube for iOS app, touch the Add to playlist  Add to icon. Touch Add to Watch Later.
  • To add a video while browsing your feeds, touch the Menu menu icon next to a video. Touch Add to Watch Later.
  • To remove a video from this playlist, open Watch Later in the Guide. Touch the Menu menu icon next to a video. Touch Remove from playlist.
Mobile site
  • To add a video to the Watch Later playlist while watching a video on YouTube’s mobile site, touch the  Add to icon. Select Watch Later.
  • Videos can be removed from the Watch Later playlist at any time:
  1. Open Watch Later in the Guide.
  2. Touch Edit.
  3. Touch the red X nex to a video to remove it.
  4. Touch Done.
Computer
  • To add a video to the Watch Later playlist while watching a video, click the  Add to icon.  Click Watch Later.
  • To add a video while browsing your feeds, hover over a video’s thumbnail and click the Watch Later icon.
  • To remove a video from the Watch Later playlist, open Watch Later in the Guide. Hover over the video you want to remove and click the X icon.

Videos not appearing in embedded playlist

Some of the videos in your playlist may have had their embed option disabled by the uploader. Private videos will also not play on your playlist unless they’ve been shared with you by the uploader. For best results, you may want to ensure that the content you’ve included in your playlist contains only public videos that have the embed option enabled.

Playlist privacy settings

As the owner of a playlist, you have the option to make your playlist public, private, or unlisted, just like you can forindividual videos.

To change your playlist settings, visit your Video Manager, then click Playlists on the left side of the page.

Next, click Edit next to the playlist you’d like to update. This will take you to the individual playlist you’d like to manage. From here, click Playlist settings and under the “Basic” tab you can update the playlist privacy setting that is right for your playlist.

At this time, only the Private and Public options are available for new playlists created on mobile devices.

Playlists in the Guide

Playlists that you’ve created and playlists that you’ve saved appear in your Guide. While your own playlists appear here by default, playlists from other YouTubers will only appear here after you’ve saved the playlist.

Saving playlists

When viewing another YouTuber’s playlist, you can save the playlist, which will allow you to find it easily from your Guide. If you own a playlist, it’s important for your audience members to be able to save a playlist so that they can view it in their Guide to enjoy again and again.

Playlists that you save publicly appear in your channel. You can remove these from view by updating your privacy settings. You will still be able to see your saved playlists in your channel but other viewers will not.

Android

On the playlist screen, tap the + icon to save the playlist to the Guide. To remove the playlist, touch the check icon.

You can also save a playlist while watching it. Tap the + icon to save the playlist to the Guide. To remove the playlist, touch the check icon.

iOS

On the playlist screen, tap the + icon to save the playlist to the Guide. To remove the playlist, touch the check icon.

You can also save a playlist while watching it. Tap the + icon to save the playlist to the Guide. To remove the playlist, touch the check icon.

Mobile site

Laptops and desktops

To save a playlist, click the “Save” btn on the Playlist page.

You can also save a playlist while watching it. Click the + icon to save the playlist to the Guide.

To remove a playlist from the Guide, you can either click the “Saved” btn on the Playlist page or the check icon while watching the playlist.

Basic

In the Basic tab, you can update the privacy settings, control how new videos are added to a playlist, allow embedding of the playlist, adjust the default ordering of the playlist (note this will override any manual ordering you have done to the videos in the playlist), or delete the playlist.

Auto add

In the Auto Add tab, you can define rules for videos to be automatically added to this playlist based on tags applied to the videos or based on keywords in a video title or description. You can apply multiple rules to a single playlist. Once defined, we will apply this rule to all new uploads so that any video uploaded with the tag or with a description or title containing the keyword you specified will be automatically added to your playlist.

Add a playlist description

  1. From your computer, select one of your playlists from your Guide.
  2. Click Add a description and enter details about your playlist.
  3. Click Done.

Edit a playlist title or description

  1. From your computer, select one of your playlists from your Guide.
  2. Click your playlist title or description, and then edit it as needed.
  3. Click Done.

Mobile site

  1. Touch Playlists in the Guide.
  2. Select one of your playlists.
  3. Touch Edit.
  4. Touch the icon with 3 horizontal bars and move it up or down to reorder the playlist.
  5. Touch Done.

Computer

  1. From your computer, select one of your playlists from your Guide.
  2. Hover your mouse over a video until you see the grey vertical bar near the video’s thumbnail.
  3. Drag and drop the video up or down to reorder the playlist.

Remove videos from a playlist

Android

  1. Touch a playlist in the Guide.
  2. Touch the menu icon next to the video you want to remove.
  3. Touch Remove.

iOS

  1. Touch My Channel in the Guide.
  2. Touch the Playlists tab.
  3. Select a playlist.
  4. Touch the Menu menu icon next to the video you want to remove.
  5. Touch Remove From Playlist.

Mobile site

  1. Touch Playlists in the Guide.
  2. Touch the Playlists tab.
  3. Select a playlist.
  4. Touch Edit.
  5. Touch the red X next to a video you want to remove.
  6. Touch Done.

Computer

  1. Open a playlist from the Guide.
  2. Hover over the video you want to remove.
  3. Click the X icon on the right side of the video’s title.

Automatically add videos to playlists

Keeping your playlists up-to-date with your latest videos can be a lot of work. Try using the Auto add setting on your playlists to automatically add new videos to your playlists. The Auto add setting allows you to define rules for videos based on tags, keywords in the title, or keywords in the description. If new videos meet the criteria, the videos are automatically added to the playlist.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Visit your Playlists page from your computer.
  2. Click Edit for the playlist you’d like to edit.
  3. From the playlist landing page, click Playlist settings.
  4. Click the Auto add tab and define your rules.
  5. Click Save.

Now any newly uploaded videos that meet this criteria will be automatically added to this playlist.

Series playlists

A series playlist allows you to mark your playlist as an official set of videos that should be viewed together. Adding a video to a series playlists allows other videos in the playlist to be featured and recommended when someone is viewing a video in the series playlist. YouTube may use this information to modify how the videos are presented or discovered.

There are a few things to remember when using series playlists:

  • You must have a verified account in order to use series playlists.
  • A video cannot appear in more than one series playlist.
  • Only videos uploaded by you and that you have the rights to can be added to a series playlist.

To enable a series playlists, visit playlist settings while on your computer and check the box “Set as official series for this playlist”.
