Watching movies and TV shows in HD

All of YouTube’s movies and TV shows are available in standard definition (SD), while select titles are available in high definition (HD). We offer HD playback in accordance with our Studio licensing agreements, which determine if HD playback is available on a given device. We’re working hard to expand our offering of HD titles across your favorite devices.

Can I watch my movie or show in HD on my computer?

When completing a video transaction on YouTube, you’ll often notice the option to rent or purchase in HD. Please note that not all videos are available for HD playback on your computer. The HD-approved devices for each title are listed under “Purchase information” when the HD option is selected.

If a video is available in HD on your computer, you can click the gear icon in the menu bar at the bottom of the web player, and change the quality to 720p. Some titles may have a 1080p option.

If a title is not available in HD on your computer, your video will play in SD instead.

$0.45 USD - $4.00 USD

Note: The accepted formula that Auxiliary Mode Inc. uses to calculate the CPM range is $0.45 USD - $25.00 USD.

The range fluctuates this much because many factors come into play when calculating a CPM. Quality of traffic, source country, niche type of video, price of specific ads, adblock, the actual click rate, watch time and etc.

Cost per thousand (CPM) is a marketing term used to denote the price of 1,000 advertisement impressions on one webpage. If a website publisher charges $2.00CPM, that means an advertiser must pay $2.00 for every 1,000 impressions of its ad. The "M" in CPM represents the Roman numeral for 1,000.
