Associate channels with a content manager

Link channels to a content owner account

You can link multiple channels to your content owner account. Once you’ve linked a channel, you can control the monetization of the videos on that channel and the branding of the channel. Once a channel is linked, you should upload only content that you own into those channels.

You invite channels to join your content owner account. When the current channel owner accepts the invitation, the channel becomes linked to your account. You determine, as part of the terms of the invitation, whether the current owner can claim and monetize the channel’s videos. By default, the ability to claim videos is reserved for the content owner.

Not all channels are eligible to be linked to a content owner account. For example, you can’t link a channel that has been suspended or is linked to a terminated AdSense account.

To invite a channel to join your content owner account:

  1. Click Channel in the left-hand navigation pane of the Video Manager. An overview list of the currently linked channels appears.
  2. Click the Invite channel btn.
  3. In the Channel names text box, enter the identifiers of the channels you want to invite. For non-Google+ identity channels, the identifier is the username; for Google+ identity channels, it is a unique alphanumeric string following the prefix UC. You can find the channel ID in the URL for the channel: www.youtube.com/user/username or www.youtube.com/channel/UCBiTuzlTyJz2XLNehfBSFsA. For more information on inviting Google+ identity channels, see this article.

If you’re inviting multiple channels, separate them with a space or a new line.

  4. Specify whether to allow the owner of the linked channel to claim videos or view revenue for the channel.Linking a channel gives you, the content owner, the right to claim videos and apply monetization policies for that channel. The owner of the channel does not have the same rights by default.
    • Select the Monetize uploads check box to allow the owner of the linked channel to claim videos and apply usage policies to them.
    • Select the View revenue check box to allow the owner of the linked channel to see the revenue generated for the channel on the Earnings Report in YouTube Analytics.
    • Select the Set match policy check box to allow the owner of the linked channel to enable Content ID matches for the channel and specify the match policies. Note that you must select Web claiming in order for Set match policy to have any effect.
  5. Click Add to send the invitations. The owners of the invited channels receive an email message informing them about the invitation and a notification on their channel’s youtube.com Dashboard.

To view pending invitations, click Invited in the Channel section of the left-hand navigation. The list shows the date you sent the invitation. To revoke an invitation, click the check box next to the channel and click Revoke invitation.

Create a new channel

The features described in this article are available only to partners who use YouTube’s Content ID matching system.

You can create a new channel and link it to your YouTube content owner automatically. Creating the channel also creates a +Page connected to the channel.

How to create a new channel

To create a new channel associated with your content owner:

  1. Sign in to the Video Manager as a user with administrator rights to the content owner.
  2. Select the content owner name from the “Manage drop-down list on the right end of the title bar.
  3. Select Channels > Overview from the left navigation menu.
  4. A list of the channels associated with the content owner appears.
  5. Click Create new.
  6. Read the new channel agreement and specify whether to allow the owner of the new channel to monetize uploads or view revenue for the channel.

Linking a channel gives the content owner the right to claim videos and apply monetization policies for that channel. The owner of the new channel (the YouTube user that you are signed in as) does not have the same rights by default.

Click Continue when you’re ready to move to the next step.

  • Select the Monetize uploads check box to allow the owner of the new channel to claim videos and apply usage policies to them.
  • Select the View revenue check box to allow the owner of the new channel to see the revenue generated for the channel on the Earnings Report in YouTube Analytics.

Multi-channel management

Content owners with multiple channels associated can use the Video Manager to control and make changes to videos on these channels.

  1. Log in to YouTube using the login email address and password you use to access cms.youtube.com
  2. Navigate to your Video Manager and ensure you’ve selected your company or content owner in the “Manage” drop-down on the top right of the page.
  3. Above the list of uploads, click the Channel filter dropdown.
  4. From the list of linked channels, select the channel you want to manage

When you’ve selected a channel, the uploads list changes to display the content from that channel. You can use Video Manager tools to review performance and make changes to these videos:

Remove linked channels

When you remove a linked channel, you eliminate the link between that channel and your content owner account. You lose the ability to control the monetization of its videos.

Removing a channel from your account does not remove the channel from YouTube or delete any of the content on the channel. It does not impact any existing claims. If you want to release any claims, release them before removing the channel.

To remove a linked channel from your content owner account:

  1. Click Channel in the left-hand navigation pane of the Video Manager. An overview list of the currently linked channels appears.
  2. Select the check box next to the channel(s) you want to remove.
  3. Choose Remove channel from the Actions drop-down list.

Copyright strikes in linked channels

Copyright strikes lead to penalties for the channel, up to and including channel suspension. Other penalties include the ability to set videos as unlisted. You may see the channels with the most strikes in the Copyright strikes section underChannels.

On this page, you see the copyright information related to the strikes on linked channels by clicking into the strikes per channel. From there, you can choose to contact the rights holder or file a counter-notification.

$0.45 USD - $4.00 USD

Note: The accepted formula that Auxiliary Mode Inc. uses to calculate the CPM range is $0.45 USD - $25.00 USD.

The range fluctuates this much because many factors come into play when calculating a CPM. Quality of traffic, source country, niche type of video, price of specific ads, adblock, the actual click rate, watch time and etc.

Cost per thousand (CPM) is a marketing term used to denote the price of 1,000 advertisement impressions on one webpage. If a website publisher charges $2.00CPM, that means an advertiser must pay $2.00 for every 1,000 impressions of its ad. The "M" in CPM represents the Roman numeral for 1,000.
