Creating and Uploading a Video

To upload a video to YouTube, you first need to be signed into your Google account and have a YouTube channel. Once logged in, you can create a video upload through YouTube Studio.

  1. Open YouTube Studio on a computer or mobile device.
  2. Select the upload option (Create → Upload videos).
  3. Choose the video file from your device.
  4. Enter your video’s basic information such as title and description.
  5. Proceed through the upload steps and confirm.

After uploading, your video can be published immediately or adjusted before going live.

Editing Video Details

After a video is uploaded, all key settings can be updated through YouTube Studio.

To edit a video:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio.
  2. Go to the Content section.
  3. Select the video you want to change.
  4. Click into the video details to edit.
  5. Save your updates when finished.

You can also edit videos using the YouTube mobile or Studio apps by selecting your video and choosing the edit option.

What You Can Edit

  • Title: The name of your video (limited to a set number of characters).
  • Description: A written summary or additional information about the video.
  • Thumbnail: The preview image viewers see before clicking.
  • Playlist placement: Add or remove videos from playlists.
  • Audience settings: Indicate whether the video is made for children or general audiences.
  • Age restrictions: Limit viewing for sensitive content.

Setting Video Privacy

You can choose who is allowed to view your video:

  • Public: Anyone can find and watch the video.
  • Unlisted: Only people with the link can view it.
  • Private: Only you and selected users can access it.

Privacy can be changed at any time in YouTube Studio under the video’s visibility settings.

Publishing or Scheduling a Video

Videos can be made public immediately or scheduled for later release.

To schedule a video:

  1. Upload your video as usual.
  2. Select the scheduling option instead of immediate publishing.
  3. Choose a date, time, and timezone.
  4. Confirm to schedule.

Once scheduled, the video will automatically go public at the selected time.

You can also change the schedule later or switch the video to public immediately.
