YouTube Channel Setup, Managers, and Channel Trailer Guide

This guide explains how to create a YouTube channel, add managers, and set up a channel trailer.

Creating a YouTube channel

To upload videos, comment, or create playlists, you must first have a channel. Without one, your activity remains private and you have no public presence on YouTube.

You can create a channel using a Google Account through entity[“software”,”YouTube Studio”,”video management platform by YouTube”] or YouTube itself.

Create a personal channel

A personal channel is managed by one person.

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or mobile browser.
  2. Click your profile picture and go to Settings.
  3. Open Account.
  4. Select Add or manage channel(s).
  5. Click Create a channel.
  6. Add a profile picture, channel name, and handle.
  7. Click Create channel.

Create a business or shared channel

A business channel allows multiple users to manage it using a Brand Account.

  1. Sign in to YouTube.
  2. Go to your channel list.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • Select Create a new channel, or
    • Choose an existing Brand Account.
  4. Enter your channel name, handle, and profile image.
  5. Click Create channel.

Brand Accounts are useful for teams, brands, or organizations because they allow shared management.


Adding a YouTube channel manager

Channel managers help you run your channel without sharing passwords.

Why use channel permissions

  • Improves account security
  • Avoids password sharing
  • Lets you assign different access levels

Role types

When adding someone to your channel, you can assign:

  • Owner – Full control, including managing other users
  • Manager – Can upload and manage content but cannot change ownership
  • Communications Manager – Limited access, cannot upload videos

How to add a manager

  1. Open entity[“software”,”YouTube Studio”,”video management platform by YouTube”]
  2. Go to Settings → Permissions (or Brand Account settings)
  3. Click Manage permissions
  4. Select Invite new users
  5. Enter the person’s email address
  6. Choose their role (Owner, Manager, or Communications Manager)
  7. Send the invitation

The user must accept the invitation before gaining access.

Setting up a channel trailer

A channel trailer is a short video that introduces your channel to new viewers. It appears on your channel homepage and encourages people to subscribe.

How to add a channel trailer

  1. Sign in to entity[“software”,”YouTube Studio”,”video management platform by YouTube”]
  2. From the left menu, select Customization → Layout
  3. Find the Channel trailer section
  4. Click Add
  5. Choose a video from your channel
  6. Click Publish

Best practices for a channel trailer

  • Keep it short and engaging (30–60 seconds)
  • Clearly explain what your channel is about
  • Include a call to action (e.g., “Subscribe for more content”)
  • Use your best or most representative content

  • A YouTube channel is required to upload and interact on the platform
  • Brand Accounts allow multiple managers for one channel
  • Channel permissions let you safely assign roles without sharing passwords
  • A channel trailer helps introduce your content to new viewers and grow your audience
