YouTube Channel Monetization FAQs

This section explains how YouTube channel monetization works and why some features may not be available.

Ways to Earn Money

Monetized channels can earn money through different features.
What you can use depends on:

  • Your subscriber count
  • The monetization modules you’ve accepted
  • Your country or region

Why a Feature May Not Be Available

Even if you meet the basic requirements, some features may still be unavailable because:

  • Your channel is still being reviewed
  • The feature is not supported in your country or language
  • There are local legal restrictions
  • YouTube support for that feature is limited in your region

Make sure you’ve accepted all required monetization agreements to unlock features.

Monetization Icons (Yellow & Green Status)

What the Icons Mean

The monetization icon shows whether a video can earn ad revenue:

  • Green = full ads available
  • Yellow = limited or no ads

Can You Appeal a Yellow Icon?

Yes. If you believe your video follows advertiser-friendly guidelines, you can submit an appeal for review.

Losing Monetization Access

If You Fall Below Requirements

You will not automatically lose monetization if your channel drops below thresholds. However:

  • Channels inactive for 6+ months may lose monetization
  • YouTube can remove monetization at its discretion

If You Lose Monetization

If your channel becomes ineligible:

  • You lose access to monetization tools and earnings features
  • You will be told which policy was violated
  • You should review and fix or remove violating content

You may:

  • Appeal within 21 days (if suspended)
  • Reapply after 90 days

Does Monetization Affect Search?

No. Monetization does not affect how videos appear in search or recommendations.

If your channel has issues:

  • Check the Earn section in YouTube Studio
  • Review YouTube monetization and Community Guidelines
  • Fix or remove violating videos if needed
