YouTube Cards Guide

How to Create YouTube Cards

YouTube cards (also called info cards) are interactive elements that can be added to videos to encourage engagement. They can link to another video, playlist, channel, or approved external website.

Note: Cards are not available on videos marked as Made for Kids.

How to Add Cards to a Video

Follow these steps to add cards in YouTube Studio:

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio
  2. Go to Content from the left menu
  3. Select the video you want to edit
  4. Click Editor
  5. Choose Info cards and select Add card

You can add up to 5 cards per video.

Types of Cards You Can Add

Video Card

Links viewers to another public YouTube video.

Playlist Card

Directs viewers to a public playlist to continue watching related content.

Channel Card

Links to another YouTube channel. This is often used to credit collaborators or recommend similar creators.

Note: This option requires message and teaser text.

Link Card

If you are part of the YouTube Partner Program, you can add a link to an external website.
Make sure the destination follows YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.

Customize Your Card

For each card, you can:

  • Set the exact time it appears in the video
  • Add a teaser message (short preview text shown to viewers)
  • Add an optional message for context

Once finished, click Save.

How Viewers Interact With Cards

Cards are designed to appear naturally while watching a video and guide viewers to related content.

Viewers can:

  • See a teaser pop-up during playback
  • Click the card icon while watching
  • Hover (on desktop) or tap (on mobile) to browse available cards

When selected, cards open a panel showing all available options in that video.

How Cards Are Displayed

  • Cards appear under the video description area
  • If multiple cards are added, viewers can scroll through them while watching
  • Teasers appear briefly at selected timestamps

Important Limitations

  • Cards will not appear if a video is claimed through Content ID and a campaign controls the content
  • Videos with cards will not display Call-to-Action overlays
