Create and Manage YouTube Playlists

A playlist is a curated collection of videos that you can create, organize, and share on YouTube. Playlists help viewers easily find related content and allow creators to structure their videos into themes or series. You can access and manage all your playlists from the You tab or through YouTube Studio.

Note: Some content marked as made for kids may have limitations on playlist features, especially when browsing from certain areas of YouTube.

Creating a Playlist

You can create a playlist directly from a video or Short:

  1. Open a video or Short you want to add.
  2. Click or tap Save.
  3. Select Create new playlist.
  4. Enter a playlist name.
  5. Choose a privacy setting:
    • Public: Anyone can view
    • Unlisted: Only people with the link can view
    • Private: Only you can view
  6. Click or tap Create.

Adding Videos to a Playlist

To add content to an existing playlist:

  1. Open the video or Short.
  2. Click or tap Save.
  3. Select an existing playlist.
  4. Confirm the addition.

A confirmation message will appear showing where the video was saved.

Editing a Playlist

You can modify playlists at any time:

  • Open the playlist from your Library or YouTube Studio
  • Click Edit to change the title or description
  • Add or remove videos
  • Reorder videos by dragging them into a new position

You can also filter playlist content by type:

  • All: Shows everything in the playlist
  • Videos: Shows long-form videos only
  • Shorts: Shows Shorts only (desktop only)

Reordering Content

To change the order of videos:

  • Drag and drop videos within the playlist
  • Or use the playlist panel on the watch page to rearrange items temporarily

Removing Videos from a Playlist

To delete a video from a playlist:

  1. Open the playlist.
  2. Find the video you want to remove.
  3. Click or tap More.
  4. Select Remove from playlist.

Deleting a Playlist

To permanently delete a playlist:

  1. Open the playlist.
  2. Click More.
  3. Select Delete playlist.
  4. Confirm deletion.

Note: Deleted playlists may still appear in watch history, but will no longer be searchable or visible in YouTube Studio analytics as a playlist entity.

Saving Playlists to Your Library

You can save playlists created by others or your own for easy access:

  • While watching a playlist, select Save playlist
  • Saved playlists appear in your Library or You tab

You can also remove saved playlists at any time.

Managing Playlists on Mobile

On the YouTube mobile app, you can:

  • Create playlists from videos or Shorts
  • Edit titles and descriptions
  • Reorder or remove videos
  • Delete playlists from your account tab or library

Some features may vary slightly between Android and iOS.
