How to Create a YouTube Channel (trailer)

To upload videos, comment, or build a presence on YouTube, you need to create a channel linked to your Google Account. Without a channel, your activity is limited to watching and subscribing.

Create a personal YouTube channel

A personal channel is managed by one person and linked directly to your Google Account.

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or mobile browser.
  2. Click your profile picture and open Settings.
  3. Go to the Account section.
  4. Select Add or manage channel(s).
  5. Click Create a channel.
  6. Add a profile picture, your channel name, and choose a handle.
  7. Click Create channel to finish.

Create a channel with a brand or business name

This option is best if you want multiple managers or a professional identity separate from your personal name.

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or mobile browser.
  2. Go to your channel list.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • Click Create a new channel, or
    • Select an existing Brand Account you manage.
  4. Enter your channel name, handle, and profile picture.
  5. Click Create channel.

If you select an existing Brand Account, you will be switched to that channel. If you create a new one, it will automatically set up a new Brand Account.

Important notes

  • A channel is required to upload content or interact publicly on YouTube.
  • Brand Accounts allow multiple owners and managers.
  • If you’re using a supervised account, some features like channel creation may be limited.

What is a channel trailer?

A channel trailer is a short video that introduces your channel to new visitors. It appears on your channel homepage and is often used to encourage viewers to subscribe and explore your content.
