To upload videos, comment, or build a presence on YouTube, you need to create a channel linked to your Google Account. Without a channel, your activity is limited to watching and subscribing.
Create a personal YouTube channel
A personal channel is managed by one person and linked directly to your Google Account.
- Sign in to YouTube on a computer or mobile browser.
- Click your profile picture and open Settings.
- Go to the Account section.
- Select Add or manage channel(s).
- Click Create a channel.
- Add a profile picture, your channel name, and choose a handle.
- Click Create channel to finish.
Create a channel with a brand or business name
This option is best if you want multiple managers or a professional identity separate from your personal name.
- Sign in to YouTube on a computer or mobile browser.
- Go to your channel list.
- Choose one of the following:
- Click Create a new channel, or
- Select an existing Brand Account you manage.
- Enter your channel name, handle, and profile picture.
- Click Create channel.
If you select an existing Brand Account, you will be switched to that channel. If you create a new one, it will automatically set up a new Brand Account.
Important notes
- A channel is required to upload content or interact publicly on YouTube.
- Brand Accounts allow multiple owners and managers.
- If you’re using a supervised account, some features like channel creation may be limited.
What is a channel trailer?
A channel trailer is a short video that introduces your channel to new visitors. It appears on your channel homepage and is often used to encourage viewers to subscribe and explore your content.
