5 YouTube terms YOU should know

It’s nearly impossible to read even one YouTube-related article without seeing words like analytics, CTR, and SEO. These words are important because all three have a huge impact on any channel’s growth.

But do you know what they all mean? To get you started on your path to becoming a YouTube expert, here are a few terms that are essential in a channel’s journey to greatness.

Annotations

Annotations are the clickable layers of text, notes, and links that you can insert on top of your YouTube videos. This #FullscreenHangouts video provides great insights on proper annotation usage.

Why this is important: Annotations are a great way to provide additional information, increase engagement, and direct viewers to other aspects of your channel and/or social feeds.

Analytics

Analytics are tools that show patterns in data. On YouTube, these patterns measure how an audience interacts with your content.

Trends Creator Platform

Why this is important: By monitoring analytics, you can create targeted content that will produce better results. If you’re a Fullscreen creator, check out your channel’s analytics on the Stats tab inside our Creator Platform.

Clickthrough rate (CTR)

CTR is the number of times a link is clicked on divided by the number of times the link is viewed. The higher the CTR, the better.

Creator Platform Link Shortner

Why this is important: CTR can provide great insight on the performance of a link. For example, if posting a trackable link to your newest video and that link gets a bad CTR, you’ll probably need to revisit the content or the way it’s promoted. As a Fullscreen creator, you can see how links are performing via our Link Shortener.

Content ID

Content ID is a system YouTube uses to scan videos automatically for copyright infringement.

Content Protection

Why this is important: Content ID stops people from profiting off of stolen content that belongs to music labels, movie studios, and so on. We have a tool that protects Fullscreen creators from digital thieves too! Our Content Protection app gives you the option of monetizing, blocking, tracking, or striking any stolen copies of your video that you find.

Search engine optimization (SEO)

SEO is the process of increasing the organic search visibility of your digital content.

$0.45 USD - $4.00 USD

Note: The accepted formula that Auxiliary Mode Inc. uses to calculate the CPM range is $0.45 USD - $25.00 USD.

The range fluctuates this much because many factors come into play when calculating a CPM. Quality of traffic, source country, niche type of video, price of specific ads, adblock, the actual click rate, watch time and etc.

Cost per thousand (CPM) is a marketing term used to denote the price of 1,000 advertisement impressions on one webpage. If a website publisher charges $2.00CPM, that means an advertiser must pay $2.00 for every 1,000 impressions of its ad. The "M" in CPM represents the Roman numeral for 1,000.
