Why was my follower count fluctuating?
In July 2015, we identified and fixed a bug causing incorrect follower counts to appear on some profiles. Any profiles that were affected should now be back to normal.
Does Instagram use background location?
Instagram does not collect background location on Android or iOS (including iOS 8). Instagram only gets your location when you’re using the app, such as when you’re trying to add a location to your post.
As part of the upgrade to iOS 8, Apple updated its model for the location permissions that you give apps. This means that if you’ve turned on location services for Instagram, you’ll see in your app settings that Instagram has a location permission set to “When in Use” after you update to iOS 8. You can turn off location permissions for Instagram at any time.
