If your YouTube channel is not monetized, it may be because you have not yet met the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) requirements, your channel has a monetization policy issue, or your account and payment settings need attention.
The best place to identify the specific issue is the Earn section of YouTube Studio.
1. You Haven’t Met YPP Requirements
To earn advertising and YouTube Premium revenue, your channel must qualify for the YouTube Partner Program.
The standard eligibility path generally requires:
- 1,000 subscribers, and
- Either 4,000 valid public watch hours during the previous 12 months or 10 million valid public Shorts views during the previous 90 days.
In eligible regions, YouTube also offers earlier access to certain fan-funding and Shopping features at lower thresholds, such as 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads within 90 days, and the required watch hours or Shorts views.
Meeting the thresholds does not guarantee acceptance. YouTube reviews the channel before approving monetization.
2. Your Content Doesn’t Meet Monetization Policies
A channel that meets the numerical requirements can still be rejected or removed from YPP if its content does not comply with YouTube’s monetization policies.
Common issues include:
- Reused content: Repurposing existing material without enough original commentary, modification, or added value.
- Inauthentic or repetitive content: Mass-produced, highly repetitive, or template-based content with limited original value.
- Community Guidelines issues: Policy violations can affect a channel’s eligibility or monetization status.
- Copyright issues: Copyright-protected material can affect whether individual videos generate revenue for you.
If monetization is denied or suspended, check the Earn tab for YouTube’s stated reason and available appeal or reapplication options.
3. AdSense or Account Issues
Monetization can also be affected by account setup.
Check that you have:
- Connected an active AdSense for YouTube account
- Completed any required identity verification
- Submitted required tax information
- Completed address verification when requested
- Enabled 2-Step Verification on your Google Account
- Accepted the appropriate YPP terms and monetization modules
4. Individual Videos Aren’t Monetized
Your channel can be monetized while certain videos are not.
In YouTube Studio → Content, check the monetization status of each video. A video may have limited or unavailable monetization because of:
- Monetization settings
- Advertiser-friendly content restrictions
- Content ID claims
- Copyright restrictions
- Other eligibility issues
For example, a Content ID claim may allow the video to remain online while some or all applicable revenue goes to the rights holder instead.
If your channel isn’t earning revenue, start with YouTube Studio → Earn. Determine whether the issue relates to YPP eligibility, monetization policies, AdSense/account setup, or individual video restrictions, then address the specific issue shown in Studio.
