YouTube creators with YouTube Studio Content Manager and appropriate rights-management access can restrict where their videos are available based on geographic territories. Standard YouTube channels generally do not have the same territory-based controls for individual videos.
Geo-Blocking Videos as a Creator
If your account has the required Content Manager or rights-management access:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio Content Manager.
- Select Videos from the left-hand menu.
- Choose the video you want to manage.
- Open the Rights Management tab.
- Under Ownership, specify the territories where you own or control the content.
- Select Block video outside your territories of ownership when appropriate.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
Territory-Based Restrictions
Rights holders can use these controls to:
- Define ownership in selected countries or regions.
- Exclude specific territories from their ownership.
- Restrict viewing outside territories where they hold the necessary rights.
- Manage regional availability according to licensing and distribution agreements.
For Viewers
When a video is geographically restricted, viewers may see a message indicating that the content is unavailable in their country or region.
Availability can differ because of licensing agreements, copyright ownership, legal requirements, or restrictions established by the applicable rights holder. Viewers should access content in accordance with YouTube’s terms and applicable regional requirements.
