Requirements to Go Live
Before you can stream, you must:
- Have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days
- Verify your YouTube channel
- Be at least 16 years old
Streams that break age rules or safety rules may be removed, and live streaming access can be restricted.
Ways to Live Stream
YouTube offers several streaming methods depending on your content:
1. Mobile Streaming

- Stream directly from your phone/tablet
2. Webcam Streaming
- Simple streaming from your computer
- Uses your built-in or external webcam
3. Encoder Streaming
- Most advanced option
- Used for gaming, events, concerts, or professional setups

4. Game Console Streaming
- Stream directly from PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo consoles
Vertical Live Streaming (Shorts-Style)
Vertical streams:
- Are optimized for mobile viewing
- Fill the full phone screen
- Can appear in the Shorts feed
- Support Super Chat, memberships, and gifts (if eligible)
Dual Streaming (Horizontal + Vertical)
You can stream in both formats at once:
- Horizontal (16:9): Standard YouTube view
- Vertical (9:16): Shorts-style mobile feed
How it works:
- Turn on Dual Stream in YouTube Studio
- Send two stream keys (or use auto mode)
- YouTube creates a vertical version automatically if using auto mode
You cannot remove vertical streaming once it starts.
Members-Only Live Streams
These streams are exclusive to paying channel members.
Benefits:

Limitations:
