While watching YouTube, you may see information about how a video was created. This appears in the video player or expanded description under “How this content was made.” It provides context about whether content has been edited, altered, or generated using synthetic tools.
This helps viewers better understand a video’s origin and any significant modifications.
Disclosure Types
Altered or Synthetic Content
This label indicates that a video contains content that has been meaningfully edited or generated using synthetic or AI-based tools.
You may see this disclosure when:
- A creator manually reports the use of altered or synthetic content during upload in YouTube Studio
- YouTube’s generative AI tools (such as Dream Screen) are used
- The video includes valid Content Credentials (C2PA) showing it was fully AI-generated
- YouTube applies a disclosure automatically when it detects undisclosed synthetic content that may pose a risk of harm
In some cases, YouTube may add this label proactively. When this happens, creators cannot remove it.

Content Credentials (C2PA)
YouTube supports Content Credentials (C2PA), a system that verifies how content was created and edited.
When Content Credentials indicate that a video was fully generated by AI or significantly modified, YouTube may display:
- A label on the video player
- Additional disclosure text in the video description
YouTube may also carry forward other verified disclosures through C2PA, including whether content was captured with a camera or generated synthetically.

“Info From” Attribution
Some Content Credentials include a verified source that signed or validated the content information. When available, this appears as an “Info from” label.
This indicates the organization or system that provided the verified metadata used to describe how the content was made.
