YouTube offers different ways for eligible creators to earn money. Depending on your country, channel size, and eligibility, you can unlock different monetization features through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP).
YouTube Partner Program (YPP)
The YouTube Partner Program is available to eligible creators in selected countries and regions. You may also gain early access to fan funding and Shopping features depending on where you live.
If you are not yet eligible, you can:
- Check your eligibility in YouTube Studio
- Select “Get notified” to be alerted when you qualify
Eligibility Requirements
To join YPP and access monetization features, you must meet at least one of these thresholds:
Lower tier access
- 500 subscribers
- 3 public uploads in the last 90 days
- AND either:
- 3,000 public watch hours (last 12 months), OR
- 3 million Shorts views (last 90 days)
You can access:
- Channel memberships
- Super Chat & Super Stickers
- Super Thanks
- Shopping (own products only)
Full monetization access
- 1,000 subscribers
- AND either:
- 4,000 watch hours (last 12 months), OR
- 10 million Shorts views (last 90 days)
You can access:
- Watch Page Ads
- Shorts Feed Ads
- YouTube Premium revenue
- All fan funding + Shopping features
Monetization Features You Can Turn On
Once in YPP, you can choose which features to enable:
Watch Page Ads
- Earn money from ads before, during, or after videos
- Includes revenue from YouTube Premium viewers
- Applies to long-form videos and livestreams
Shorts Feed Ads
- Earn revenue from ads shown between Shorts
- Revenue begins once you accept the Shorts monetization module
Channel Memberships
- Viewers pay monthly to join your channel
- Offer perks like badges, emojis, and exclusive content
Super Chat & Super Stickers
- Fans pay to highlight messages during livestreams and premieres
Super Thanks
- One-time payments from viewers on regular videos and Shorts
Shopping
- Promote your own products
- In some cases, promote brand products and earn commission
YouTube Premium Revenue
- Earn money when Premium subscribers watch your content
- No ads required for this revenue stream
Important Requirements
Before monetizing, you must:
- Follow YouTube Community Guidelines
- Follow advertiser-friendly content rules
- Own or have rights to all audio and visual content in your videos
How to Enable Monetization
In YouTube Studio:
- Go to Earn
- Review available modules
- Accept the terms for each feature you want
- Turn on monetization per video or channel feature
Not all features are available to every creator. Availability depends on your country, channel performance, and policy compliance.
